jakarta, leprosy is not a new disease in indonesia. although already stated the elimination of internationally, but the reality is still a contributor to indonesia of leprosy in the world."but if we know is still a contributor to no 3 in the world of leprosy after china and brazil," said dr. nafsiah mboi menkes in the event world leprosy day anniversary with the theme of ' remove the stigma and discrimination against leprosy in leprosy hospital dr sintanala, tangerang, on wednesday (13/2/2013).menkes disease is growing especially fluent in the slums and dirty, because it's clean and healthy life pattern (phbs) can help the prevention of transmission of leprosy.indonesia is known to have reached the elimination of leprosy by the year 2000. despite the elimination, every year indonesia still continue to report the 14,000-20,000 new patients without any significant loss.at the local level 14 of 33 provinces and 150 of 164 counties had a rate of discovery of new cases over 10 per 100,000 population or the number of new cases and found more than 1,000 each year.by 2011 indonesia reported new cases of leprosy 20.023. based on the figures for the number of cases with disability level 2 i.e. the visible defect amounted to 2.025 people or 10, 11 percent.these results make indonesia still occupies the third position in the world and second in the southeast asia region in the number of new cases of leprosy invention.menkes reveals there are some things that need to be done are:1. do the efficiency of mapping correctly, there should be a proper information system and correct like anywhere there are lepers.2. conduct prevention especially in pockets of the area.3. education and treatment efforts, could the co-operation between public hospitals with plastic surgery and orthopedic surgery so that defects can function normally."leprosy is an infectious disease that can be prevented and treated with a perfect and fully recovered, and disability due to leprosy could also be prevented," menkes said.(ver./vta )
